Early Childhood Center
The next time you drive by the new Paw Paw Early Childhood Center on the elementary campus, you will be amazed to see how everything is coming together! In addition to the completion of sidewalks around the building, the new brightly colored playground equipment can be seen on the building’s north side. Landscape plans are also taking shape for a berm, an artificial ridge or embankment, to increase privacy and added security for the playground area. The berm will provide a natural sloped play area for children and serve as a sledding hill in winter! Eventually, Paw Paw Early Childhood Education Director Mindy Brennan would like to see a “Natural Playground” built near the woods using the trees that were cleared during construction. Not only would this project be environmentally sustainable, but it would also offer unique educational and recreational opportunities for children.
Inside the building, crews are busy installing custom cabinets, benches, and countertops. One feature unique to the cabinet design is a built-in reading nook. This cozy area was designed under countertops to offer children a private space to relax, read and unwind.
Early Elementary
The Paw Paw Early Elementary 2-classroom addition continues to show signs of progress. Now that the roof has been properly insulated, the next step is to finish the roofing. Crews are also on-site installing the brick veneer, which blends beautifully with the existing building.
Later Elementary
At Paw Paw Later Elementary, the 2-classroom addition is also taking shape with the installation of the structural steel roof. This is a delicate balancing act that requires skilled crane operators to carefully position the steel beams before steelworkers secure them in place. This work requires great precision, as each beam needs to be aligned correctly to ensure the structural integrity of the entire building.
